Superb quality Biedermeyer flame mahogany secretaire c.1870

Introducing a wonderful 19th century piece of Biedermeyer brilliance, crafted in Germany circa 1870.

This superb quality secretaire has been crafted with flame mahogany and features a cylinder top. The exterior is slightly understated as compared to some Biedermeyer pieces, with the main components being the cylinder top with a slide out desk, three lower full width storage drawers, three upper cabinets and a drawer.

Once the cylinder top is rolled open, it reveals an incredibly fitted interior featuring an architectural design. It has 6 small drawers and 2 arched feature drawers either side of a central fine miniature architectural recess. This is modelled as a classical colonnade with ebonised columns, mirrored panels and an intricate geometric parquetry floor, creating an illusion of depth and perspective.

Behind this recess hides two secret compartments that need to be seen to be believed!

The desktop pulls out to a comfortable depth, and features a felt lined adjustable writing slope, and two slide back storage compartments to the sides (suitable for paperwork).

The piece includes original bone escutcheons and knobs, all original keys, and rests on bracket feet.
