13/06/2025Rare French terracotta Kangaroo roof finial c.1900
This interesting piece came off a rooftop in Melbourne! Hailing from Marseilles, France, this piece was crafted for the Australian market and exported here around the turn of the century, where it found its home on said rooftop.
The finial was removed during the 1980s and our mate was exhibited at the National Gallery of Victoria in Terry Lane’s exhibition, The Kangaroo in the Decorative Arts.
The kangaroo is sculpted from French terracotta, and comes apart in pieces for carriage (head, tail, body).
A very unique talking point, this piece would make a fab garden statue, or where it was originally intended for – your roof!
We can deliver to Melbourne for $110 or contact us if you are further afield.
